Uncommonly common

Have you ever heard of people who were in difficult situations and think: I can't imagine what I would do? I know as a mom I have said that exact statement so many times. Before Shelby died I heard about a family that lost their teenager and I just couldn't fathom how they would put one foot in front of another. It is has been six and a half years since the day that I found myself in that unfamiliar place. When I tell you that I didn't know how I would survive much less survive what was coming would be an understatement. There has been so much tragedy after that initial devastating day that I thought I was being crushed.

Once you go through such heartache you start to see all the heartache in the world around you that is overlooked by so many. Most people think "oh we are good" but the truth is we aren't good. The amount of teen suicide and drug overdose is mounting in our communities but who is there to help when no one can see the need? Unfortunately, I have experienced being a mom of a teen who has wanted to end their life, more than once, and it is not a place you find hope or help from the masses.

The Shelby Center is a safe place that understands that the uncommon (in the vast majority of people) is the reality of so many that are not seen. We are here to provide resources for you and your family in the darkest life circumstances.

We want to hear from you! We want you to know you are seen and loved for who you are! Reach out if you need or you know someone who needs to find hope when it seems all is lost.
